Melbourne Great Ocean Road

Melbourne welcomed Fabienne and me with what felt and looked like a typical swiss day in fall and a hostel with a shared shower so dirty that it encouraged me to use up all my coconut bodyspray (...) rather than taking one step in its direction.
Friday night was a nice mix of waiting for Jackson (who was almost on time...), walking through nightly Melbourne, trying to appease Fabiennes starving and finally quite a frew drinks... We all ended up sleeping only 2 hours before the alarm clock run and we had to get up and ready for our Great Ocean Road tour.

The small van was packed with Asians, who were given apple green and pink ipods with translations, a group of very american Americans, us two Swiss and Santa Clause as driver/guide (I am convinced it was Santa Clause finishing his summer-job!). There were a lot of hours of driving involved in that trip, but considering the really cold and rainy weather this was not even bad and quite relaxing... We enjoyed nice views, caught up sleep, I got to see famous Bells Beach (with very little surf unfortunately) and we did a very nice and easy rainforest walk (to the annoyance of the american girls, who were absolutely not dressed for the circumstances). Of course heaven opened its gates and let it rain heavily just as we hit the main attraction, the 12 apostels and eventhough we only took some quick pictures, we got soaked to the bones and had to sit on our wet bums for another 6 hours... Still, the trip was nice and I will definitely do it again in summer! (and bring my board along, surf looks great! Am just a little bit scared as they have the big white sharks there... iek!)

Back in our lovely, cosy "prison cell", Fabienne and me killed a bottle of quite good wine (try New Zealand white wines! Awesome!) and finally got some sleep...

Sunday was even colder and more windy but I enjoyed the first "pre x-mas feeling" of sitting in a warm coffee shop, sipping a hot chocolate wens dusse hudled! =) Jackson showed me ACDC Rd, a very cool street with loads of concert posters and street art, grafittis... I must say, I didn't see much of Melbourne yet but it has much more vibe than Sydney, is definitely more european, has great buildings, is quite arty and I simply like it there... To be continued...
