Little trip to Byron Bay on the weekend was perfectly worth it... Great weather, awesome beaches, even better waves, exotic drinks and just chilling...
Kaz did a great job wrapping my board in Manly - it looked more like an artwork than a board though - but after having happily picked it up at the "bulk item" section at Brisbane airport I encountered a little "drama" in terms of a limousine that just seemed too small to acommodate Fabienne, Daniela, me, the quite big driver, our 3 bags and my board... but at the end we found a way, the nose of my board sticking out of the front left window and me haning on to the rear during the 2.5h drive for it not to fly away... but it worked ;o)
Byron Bay greeted me with fantastic waves where I could finally work on my turns and actually get a much better feeling for my board. It was heaven! Just not as much when suddenly a police car raced to the beach, sirenes howling, and a cop yelling into loudspeakers to get the hell out of the water; shark warning (luckily I was NOT in the water at that time - I think I would have died out of shock). It didn't take more than one minute for everybody to be at the beach and whatch a zodiac cruising the beach in order to scare away the shark... not a very good feeling to know that these biests are there, but well, they are and I better get used to it...
We even managed to get up at 5:30 am (yep, no joke) and not even to go surfing! (damn, I was so jealous of all the morning surfers) We did a walk to the lighthouse which was really beautiful and a good thing to do in the cool air of the morning rather than the sultry afternoon heat.
Check out the pictures. Aloha.
